The employer burden an in-house hire carries

  • Employer share of statutory social insurance of about 21 percent of gross pay: pension 9.3 percent, health 7.3 percent, long-term care 1.8 percent, unemployment 1.3 percent, plus half of the supplementary levy
  • The U1 (sickness), U2 (maternity) and U3 (insolvency) apportionment levies
  • Statutory accident insurance contributions to the Berufsgenossenschaft
  • Paid holiday and continued pay during sickness for up to six weeks
  • Recruitment and workspace cost, plus management overhead

In total, the fully loaded cost of a German hire regularly runs to roughly 1.3 times gross salary before recruitment, workspace and management are added. That is the base the verified saving compares against.
